The Portland Companion is a guide for locals and visitors and is designed around what is good and working in and around our town. Everything that makes Portland a special place to live in: Her vibrant neighborhoods packed with independent small businesses and amenities that make a great city worth living in; the ability to walk or ride a bike to parks, restaurants, brewpubs, cafés, eclectic shops, bookstores, farmers’ markets and libraries - the interconnected energy and pathways that creates a meaningful urban life for its citizens, and an exciting destination to visit and explore. The Guide is about sustainability: supporting and connecting with the abundance of nearby farmers and producers, knowing where your food comes from and who makes it. It is community-based: celebrating independent, local and family-run businesses and institutions. And it is inclusive: honoring the history, culture and diversity of all the people who live and have lived here.
